Wellbeing

At BDCPS we have recognised the increasing demands on our parent/carers, which have increased in recent years. We are currently in process of setting up a pilot project to offer respite and relaxation which we are calling Parent Carers Matter.

Once all in place, we will run a programme of therapeutic sessions for parent carers with an aim of reducing isolation, improving their health and well-being and increasing their resilience. Our programme will be for different two hour sessions running fortnightly during term time. Sessions will include a combination of reiki, yoga, music therapy, mindfulness and meditation and will aim to give parent carers a small window of complete relaxation to help recharge their batteries and enable them to continue their often challenging caring role. A family support worker will be on hand to facilitate the session and provide refreshments and support for parent carers.

Our first initiative of 2020 is a parent carer BDCPS singing group – yes that is right! We are starting our own choir! We were lucky enough to meet Sophie Garner, a vocal coach from The Voice UK, who will be leading the choir. Sophie met with the parents and carers at a breakfast prior to the start date to ease their worries and give them the confidence to take part. The choir will run weekly on a Monday between 12:30 and 2pm. We encourage as many of you to join as possible and we promise you don’t need to be able to sing!

Please watch this space for updates on this new programme and when we expect it to start! Any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
